Aila Kingma--6 days old

It's always great to see when we can see our wedding clients, who have become friends, move to the next step and start their own families.

Congratulations to Ron and Anne Kingma who brought their sweet little Aila Elisabeth into the world this week. Mom, daughter and dad are all doing well...just getting used to each other and learning how to operate on very little sleep. Good luck..it's a great ride.

Your friends, Doug, Stana and Mila

Children's Sessions

Last weekend I photographed Jake at our studio in Bozeman. I don't have expectations for my children's sessions; especially in the studio. Some kids last for 20 minutes before melting down and some last an hour. You never know what you will get, but there is always something interesting if it is play time for the child and they are allowed to be who they are.

Jake loves guns and doesn't care too much for clothes. This is who he is at two and won't it be fun to look back when he is 25 or 40-years-old and remember this side of Jake.

You can click on the links below to see the entire shoot (so to speak).

Engagement Photos

We've added an engagement section to our image bank on our updated web site this past week. These two images were taken last summer during an engagement session for a couple whose wedding I am photographing this coming fall in Sun Valley, Idaho. The engagement sessions reflect this time in the couple's lives when their lives are relatively carefree and hold great promise. The images below and above were taken in Bozeman, Montana and are part of our new upgraded web site.

Morgan Rocchio

For the past two years Morgan Rocchio has worked as my assistant at weddings. With all the craziness at weddings she has not gotten enough credit for making it all work. She has been a favorite of the clients during that time while helping not only me but the clients and the client's families during the day. Her behind the scenes work has made it possible to get extraordinary images the past two years.

Morgan is a gifted photographer and I hope she returns to her photography after completing her dental hygiene degree in '09.

Last month Morgan was again great at assisting a wedding at the Big EZ Lodge in Big Sky, Montana. I was able to toss her a camera at one point and she came up with the incredible photograph seen below. Morgan's love is fashion photography and I can see by this image that she is truly talented.

Send Morgan an email and tell her what you think of her work: morganrocchio@hotmail.com

Fancy Flours

It is hard to believe Spring is not far off. I was reminded this past week while shooting a Spring Table session for Nancy Quist of Fancy Flours in Bozeman (http://www.fancyflours.com/). With Nancy's energy and spunk bouncing around the room amid the Spring coloring; my brain is now convinced Spring is here but my eyes tell me differently. Included in the photo session was an incredible cake from Marie at Two Sugars (http://www.twosugars.biz/) and fun flower arrangements from Avant Floral (http://www.avantfloraldesign.com/).

The Williams Brothers

We photographed the Williams brothers yesterday in Bozeman. You can see for yourselves just how cute they are. We spent a couple of hours playing, eating lunch and taking photos. It was very relaxed and great for the parents to not have to pack them to the studio. Another great thing thing is that when the photos go up on the walls, the colors will in the photos will work great because they already will match the wall colors used as backgrounds for the images. It is so so good to work in homes where the children feel most comfortable.

Wild West WinterFest

Our daughter Mila has been entering the photo contest and placing the past two years in the Wild West WinterFest at the Gallatin County Fairgrounds. It's been a great way for her to explore her creative side. Last year she really wanted to win and so took a photo of her dog and placed first. This year she decided winning did not mean as much as photographing what she is passionate about (though her dog may be her biggest passion). So she chose her god parents, Tom and Tess. Tess will be her entry this year. It's fun for her parents to she Mila's growth though this process. Good Luck Mila!

All The Elements

A recent wedding in Big Sky, Montana at the Big Sky Chapel provided all the elements to make the photo shoot fun: emotion, kids, humor (which is almost redundant for "kids"), and photojournalistic moments. When this tiny attendant came down the isle pulling up his britches it was hard not to laugh out loud and forget about shooting. Our business has begun to revolve more and more around photographing children. That has been very satisfying and a natural fit for us as well. Stana and I genuinely like working with kids and we are drawn to them. This summer we are planning on photographing more and more children at play doing what they do best: being themselves.

Forward in time
